Vote for Jim Fano Jr.
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 120,
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jim Fano Jr. I am a 24 year member of Local 120, and a proud second generation pipefitter. I served my apprenticeship in this Local where the values of hard work and craftsmanship were taught to us. I am running for the position of Business Agent. I am very excited for this opportunity to represent our Local and it’s skilled membership into the future.
My late father was also a member of this Local for over 50 years. I learned from him and the other members of his generation what it means to be a union pipefitter and craftsman. This is something that I feel has been lost over the years. The contractors we work for demand that we provide them with quality craftsmanship and we should strive to provide this everyday. However, while doing this we also have a responsibility to each other. A word that I like to use is benevolence. For this is not only a career, but also a way of life. We need to protect our work and each other. We need to create conditions for jobs that are healthy and safe. As a Business Agent I will strive to do this everyday.
Over the years, I have worked in many jurisdictions with other UA members across the country. I have found it fascinating how Locals run their organizations differently from Local to Local. I look at this as a learning experience. Using this experience to the betterment of our Local. A new perspective is what I will bring to this position.
I feel that politics has created a division among the membership which is something I would like to see disappear. Our Union is stronger and more responsive if we all work together for a common goal. Our industry is complex and diverse. This is why we need to work together. For only then we will be successful. Members should not feel there may be retribution against them for expressing their concerns or opinions. They should also feel that they are truly being heard.
I have been contacting as many members as I can through phone calls. However, I have not been provided with a phone list for all members. Please do not feel slighted if I have not reached out to you. If you would like to contact me, please call 440.884.5680 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. I will also be available at the Hall on Election Day. I look forward to seeing you all.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for the opportunity to serve as one of your Business Agents.
